Description:
UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. In line with the UN SDGs, the UNDP has started two project with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA); a Project supported by the EU and a Project supported by the Government of Norway. The two projects aim at supporting management and operations of Aqaba Marine Reserve (AMR). The Reserve has been officially registered as a National Protected Area in December 2020. It is managed by ASEZA following the steps of Aqaba Marine Park, which was established in 1997. AMR also occupies the same area. The registration file prepared during 2020 incorporated detailed information on AMR-s physical and biogeochemical characteristics and dominant habitats.
