Description:
In Jordan, the main focus of the Jordanian Government in regard to wastewater infrastructure, networks and treatment plants, is to serve densely populated areas. However, there is an obvious demand for cost efficient and safely managed sanitation solutions in smaller cities with strong community to mitigate the health and environmental risks associated with poor sanitation systems. Sanitation solutions in small cities is also important to protect groundwater quality and reduce pressure on freshwater by using reclaimed water for irrigation purposes. This project aims to support local community and authorities in Azraq city in Jordan to adopt sustainable sanitation solutions by constructing and support the operation of wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 250 m³/d, providing reclaimed water for agricultural purpose, and dissemination of the project-s approach for addressing water problems of Jordanian communities in an innovative and comprehensive way.
