  • Description:
  • The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) supports Jordan in achieving sustainable development that leads to transformational change in service-centered institutions and real improvements in peoples lives. UNDP employs a participatory approach to ensure mutual ownership is gained in the designand implementation of policy and programming to guarantee to address the development challenges that affect the country. The European Union Delegation in Jordan has entrusted the implementation of the "Improving Local Development to Increase the Resilience of Host Communities and Refugees in North Jordan" (LED) project to UNDP in lieu of its extensive experience in inclusive and sustainable development. UNDP follows an integrated approach to address poverty and inequalities and achieve resilience and inclusion by supporting initiatives that foster an enabling environment for job creation, especially among vulnerable youth and women, and host communities in crisis-affected areas. In its current Country Programme, UNDP Jordan has committed to strengthening resilience and inclusion to build effective, accountable, transparent governance institutions at all levels. As demonstrated in previousprograms implemented, a specific focus has remained on building the effectiveness of decentralized systems and institutions in identifying and responding to the needs and priorities of citizens, especially women, and youth, at the local level. The European Commission approved a special measure in favor of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for 2021. Among the actions included in the measure and in the third annex, it focuses on supporting the governorate of Irbid because refugees represent more than 20% of its total population[1]. Focusing on the Governorates of Irbid and Ajloun, the LED Projectproposes a series of activities and is inclusive of host communities and refugees through private sector engagement for local economic development. The efforts focus on creating economic opportunities and the joint search for solutions to chronic development challenges. By boosting the growth of economic sectors and supporting either the demand or supply of value chains and clusters, the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will create jobs and enhance social cohesion, integration, and a sense of belonging among refugees and Jordanians. This assignment aims to find and map routes (trails) for agricultural and tourism visits (trips) within the Ajloun and Irbid Governorates. This Agro-Tourism Routing System presents an opportunity to unlock the regions potential for tourism experiences. The proposed routes should cover the agricultural, natural, historical, cultural, touristic, and fertile lands. The routes will be tailored to the unique landscape and cultural heritage of all districts in Ajloun (Main Ajloun District Qasaba and Kufranja District) and two districts in Irbid, namely (Northern Aghwar District and Bani Kenana District). To achieve an effective and reliable Agro-Tourism Routing System, the Geographic Information System (GIS) technology would be used to render the routes active. This is done through identifying and mapping out efficient routes on the GIS through the development of chart immersive-informative journeys for users. This activity will build on theGovernorate of Ajloun GIS administrative divisions demarcation activity previously conducted by UNDP. This activity will also build on the demarcation methodology used for the Demarcation of the Ajloun Governorates administrative boundaries to the most local level following the Administrative Division regulation.
