  • Description:
  • Request for proposals are invited for Building the Capacities of the Local Network of Insider Mediators. Introduction : The changing nature and scope of conflicts in the region driven by multifaceted economic, political, and societal root causes, call for creative and flexible approaches to conflict prevention and/ or resolution that broaden processes of societal change required to make peace last beyond formal peace building processes. Whether as a result of conflict relapse, the uptick in violence and conflict, or the failure of sustained and well-resourced efforts, there is a growing recognition that the international response to interstate conflict - and the mediation blueprint that underpins it - may not be fully β€˜fit for purpose-. The conflicts underway in the Arab States region are a good case in point. Conflict drivers in the region require conflict prevention and mediation capacities at different levels, in diverse sectors, over sustained periods of time and amongst different groups. This has created space and innovative opportunities for well-placed intermediaries, understood here as Insider Mediators (IMs), to play an increasingly critical role in forging consensus for crucial reforms, and creating much-needed spaces for dialogue, while changing the attitudes and behaviors that promote violence. A needs assessment was conducted by UNDP in the pilot governorate of Zarqa to ensure the needs of Insider Mediators selected to be part of the platform are properly captured and articulated. The needs assessment needs to be validated and integrated into the tailored training programme. The capacity building curricula will cover core skills and competencies of Insider Mediation, such as mediation, conflict analysis, communication, negotiation, and facilitation. It will consist of a combination of in-person workshops, online self-paced modules as well as one-to-one mentoring and coaching opportunities that will expose the Insider Mediators to different conflict scenarios and mediation techniques. The entity will provide regular feedback sessions, peer learning groups, case studies, and follow-up activities as well as monitor and evaluate the IMs performance and impact. The entity will work closely with UNDP Jordan and the regional project team to ensure alignment with the project objectives and outcomes. The entity will also coordinate with other relevant stakeholders, such as local authorities, civil society entities, and international partners, to enhance the visibility and sustainability of the project.
